Historical Commission
The Wakefield Historical Commission was established by an act of the Town Meeting and is a 5-member board appointed by the Town Council. The Commission’s responsibility is to work to preserve, protect, and develop Wakefield’s historical and architectural heritage in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8D.

Wakefield’s Historic Sites
Many properties in Wakefield are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Histories of all National Register Properties, along with over 250 other properties considered significant to the town’s architectural or historical heritage, can be found in the Wakefield Historical Commission’s “Cultural Resources of Wakefield” booklet available at the Beebe Memorial Library.

Demolition Bylaw
The Wakefield Historical Commission maintains the town’s Demolition Delay Bylaw (section 126 of the Town’s General Laws) in order to attempt to preserve and protect Wakefield’s significant sites.
